BY AFZAL YOUSAFIndia's largest Motor show, Auto Expo 2023 was held in Greater Noida from January 11th to 18th. As the Auto Industry is accelerating towards electrification, Auto expo witnessed a dominance of electric cars in the passenger vehicle segment. They came in the form of Potential models for India and concepts. This article lists the Electric cars at Auto Expo 2023.
1. TATA HARRIER EV
Tata is coming with an electric version of Harrier, which is in a near production-ready stage. Harrier EV is based on a combination of Omega-Arc and Gen 2 Electric platform. It is also expected to be an AWD with Dual motors. The vehicle will be loaded with advanced features like Telematics, Vehicle to load capabilities, and possibly ADAS too.
2. Maruti eVX
Auto Expo 2023 was kick-started by Maruti Suzuki and the company has finally taken a definitive step toward EV with the eVX. The bold and stylish boxy SUV has a battery pack capacity of 60 kWh which gives a range of 500 km on a single charge. The production model is expected to be on sale by 2025.
3. TATA SIERRA EV
Sierra EV was the showstopper since the first day of the Auto expo. It has improved from the concept that was shown in the last expo and Tata confirmed that Design, Seating layout, and Interior is locked for production. Also, Sierra will be having an ICE Version.
4. TATA TIAGO EV Blitz
As the Electric vehicle steals the Auto expo 2023, the Sporty version of Tata Tiago EV Blitz was also unveiled. Vehicle specifications are still not disclosed and we are expecting to see this model on showroom floors in near future.
5. KIA EV9

KIA displayed EV9 at Auto Expo 2023. This concept had a debut at the LA Auto show and Auto expo 2023 proving how creative Kia can get. Excellent futuristic design with Kia's Tiger Nose incorporated into Tiger face with massive wheels. The interior design is minimal with a double-screen layout. Technical specifications are yet to be disclosed by the company.
6. HYUNDAI IONIQ 5

Hyundai launched its EV Model Ioniq 5 at Auto Expo 2023 and this EV is based on the all-electric platform E-GMP, the same as Kia EV6. But Hyundai managed the build of Ioniq 5 locally and thus expected price is around 15 lakhs. Hyundai Ioniq 5 is available in rear-wheel drive configuration with features like an Augmented reality Head-up display, ADAS, Dual screen, etc.
Hyundai also unveiled the sedan version of the Ioniq 5 at the expo. Ioniq 6 is the sedan model of Ioniq 5 and it comes with a powerful motor and claimed range of 610 km on a single charge.
7. MG MIFA9
MIFA9 is the biggest vehicle in the upcoming EV lineup of MG. Being an MPV, it is a 5.2-meter long vehicle, powered by a 350 Nm motor with a 90kWh battery with a claimed range of 440 km. The Interior of the vehicle is arranged with all electric 4 captain seats. As per reports, MG has no plans at present to launch MIFA9 in India.
8. MG ZS EV
MG ZS EV is one of the largest-selling electric models in India and Auto expo 2023 has seen a facelift version of the model. MG also unveiled models like Marvel R, MG4, and MG5. Among these models, MG4 is a model under consideration to launch in India.
MG4 is an all-electric hatchback on a skateboard platform, which takes MG to the next level of electrification in India. Its length is similar to ZS EV but has a bigger wheelbase. MG4 comes with 2 different capacity battery packs, the 51 kWh pack gives a range of 350 km, and the 64 kWh pack offers a range of 452 km on a single charge.
9. LEXUS LF-30
Lexus showcased a cool EV Concept LF-30 at the Auto expo that has an AWD capability along with wireless charging technology. This insane accelerating model can charge the battery without one having to stop and plug in. Battery capacity is around 100 kWh which offers a range of 500 km on a single charge. Lexus also showcased the concept model LF-Z.
10. BYD SEAL EV

BYD unveiled Seal EV at the Auto Expo, which is inspired by Ocean X Concept. It is based on BYD's e-Platform 3.0 and uses its Blade battery technology. The seal has two battery models 61.4 kWh and 82.5 kWh which offer a range of 550 km and 700 km respectively. In India, BYD is expected to launch an AWD Model.
Apart from the above-mentioned models, Toyota unveiled its first electric model, Toyota bZ4X and BYD showcased one more model named Atto 3 Special edition. This Auto Expo has become a stage for the OEMs to showcase their Electric models in Passenger car segments and it clearly indicates the Auto industry is undergoing major electrification in this segment.
