Indian Govt. mulls installing EV charging kiosks at 69,000 petrol pumps over the country.

According to the latest reports, Indian Govt. is mulling setting up at least one EV charging kiosk across the 69,000 petrol pumps in the country to boost the EV charging infrastructure in the country and to convince people to go electric.
Apart from that, Govt. is also thinking of making it compulsory to install charging kiosks at all company owned, company operated (Directly operated by Oil companies) petrol pumps of state refiners.
Indian Power minister R K Singh in a review meeting of EV charging infrastructure suggested to top officials of oil ministry that " they may issue an order for their oil marketing companies (OMCs) under their administrative control for setting up charging kiosks at all COCO petrol pumps", a source said.
As per the sources, Other franchisee petrol pump operators (like dealership) may also be advised to have at least one charging kiosk at their fuel stations, and this will help achieve EV charging facility at all petrol pumps in the country.
Under the new guidelines of Oil ministry, new petrol pumps must have an option of one alternate fuel. As per the sources said "Most of the new petrol pumps are opting for electric vehicle charging facility under alternative fuel option. But it will make huge difference when the existing petrol pumps would also install EV charging kiosks".
There are around 69,000 petrol pumps in the country as per the industry estimation. Charging statons in every petrol pumps will give a huge boost to electric vehicle adoption in the country as lack of charging infrastructure is the major drawback faced in people buying EVs.
Indian power ministry has also made a plan to focus on Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Vadodara and Bhopal for creating EV charging infrastructure in cities as well as on highways to encourage people to switch over to electric mobility.
As per the sources, "The minister is of the view that putting up two or three charging stations in any city would be a waste of funds. Besides, the central government is looking at complete electrification of public transport in Delhi, which can later be followed in other cities."
This move by the Indian govt. will surely help to boost EV atmosphere in the country. Charging kiosks in every petrol pumps will make people buy more electric vehicles as charging infrastructure is no more an issue for them.

It must be promoted by the government to the public who r interested to install a charging station.road side places wher their is provsion .like hotels .dhabas etc

how do you expect this will work .. Slow charging will take few hours to charge .. How the Q will be maintained ... In my view most of the pvt users travel 40-50 km per day and slow home charging is good enough for them. For others taxi, public auto etc battery swapping could be a better option. Charging station need to be installed only after technology for fast charging is matured and available.
ReplyDeleteYes. public charging kiosks only opts fast charging. Slow and moderate charging of private vehicles can be done on home itself. Public transport can use charging kiosks (fast/moderate) in their hubs.
